“青 / Qing Ghazitsu” and essay on poetics @ Shenandoah
A little late to post, but I’m very grateful to have a poem in the Fall 2025 issue of Shenandoah, “青 / Qing Ghazitsu.” The poem is written in the ghazitsu form, a hybrid poetic form of the ghazal, zuihitsu, and the Chinese language that I developed in my practice.
At the generous invitation of the journal, I recently published a behind the poem/craft essay on the development of the poem and on the ghazitsu, “The Poetics of Craquelure: Behind the Poem ‘青 / Qing Ghazitsu,’” on Shenandoah’s blog, The Peak. The essay explores the fractures and craquelures that led to the development of the form, and is an extension of my thinking on Chinese characters that I began at my MFA and developed further in my class at the Asian American Literary archive. It also traces my relationship with the ghazal, zuihitsu, Chinese languages in general, and the spectre of Ezra Pound.
