September Sappho Poetry Night

Welcome back to the September edition of the Sappho Poetry Night! As well as our amazing open mic section, the event will also included readings from poets Erin Vincent and Nicole W. Lee!
Poetry nights are held on the first Wednesday of every month (except January) and have become renowned for their welcoming atmosphere and line-up of well-known poets. Supported by University of Technology Sydney Creative Writing, this event series is hosted by poets and UTS creative writing teachers, Dave Drayton, Sarah Attfield and Anne Casey.

AWP Virtual Panel: Myths & Motherlands: Migration & Multiplicity in the Chinese Diaspora
With Angela Siew, M. Cynthia Cheung, Diana Cao, Nicole W. Lee, and Saba Keramati
A reading from the authors’ award-winning work and recent/forthcoming books. In the face of hypernationalism and trade wars, it’s essential that we as Chinese diasporic women offer our work as resistance. Poems will touch upon the Chinese diasporic experience—the impact of migration on cultural and linguistic legacy, the idea of homeland, reinterpretations of historical characters and myths, multiplicity in identities and literary form—and work outside this scope. A Q&A will follow.

Massachussetts Poetry Festival: Bridging the Gap
Join Diana Cao, M. Cynthia Cheung, Nicole W. Lee and Angela Siew for a reading from the authors’ award-winning work and recent/forthcoming books. Work will touch both upon the Chinese diasporic experience – the impact of migration on cultural and linguistic legacy, the idea of homeland, or reinterpretations of stories of Chinese female historical characters and myths – as well as work outside this scope. How has/does identity influence the work of these writers (or not)? A Q&A and community discussion will follow the reading.
