Moths + National Screenwriters Conference

The lovely Haiha Le and Harry Tseng at work on 'Moths'So this is a belated post but I thought I'd do a quick update of my whereabouts recently. Earlier this month I was lucky enough to work on a second development of Moths, this time at the Melbourne Theatre Company. For two and a half weeks myself and five other actors debated and discussed and played with several versions of Michele Lee's script which culminated in a public showing. The work was well received and hopefully will get picked up for further development or performance in the near future.

The second exciting thing I got to attend was the National Screenwriters Conference. Over two and a half days at the Mornington Peninsula myself and two hundred other attendees got to listen to international guests such as Tom Schulman (Dead Poet's Society) and Paul Abbott (Shameless) talk about writing process and industry goings on. The vibe was super friendly and I learnt a lot, not to mention enjoying a wonderful meal at the Point Philip Estate. Clearly screenwriters know how to enjoy themselves and each other!

NSC Panel: L-R Jan Sardi, John Collee, Tom Schulman, Paul Abbott, Stephan ElliottAnd in between I managed to go on a research/holiday trip to the Solomon Islands where I had intended to research doctors in aid. However the shortness of the trip did mean that I spent most of my time snorkelling and diving instead. Research well worth spent!

And of course another Readings review will be coming soon, as well as more interviews for The Creative Conversation. Hope you've all had an exciting start to the year so far!

Moths

So I've been lucky enough to work with Michele Lee again on a development of her play Moths. The show is an exploration of Asian Australian identity and sexuality and was a ball to play with during our short development in March. Now we're presenting the second half of the development on Tuesday 5th June from 6-8pm at Northcote Town Hall, under the direction of Emma Valente and dramaturg Gorkem Acroglu, and featuring myself, Jing-Xuan Chan, Fanny Hanusin, Harry Tseng and Keith Brockett. Come, it's free, and there'll be food and wine! Check out the flyer below (isn't it cool!):

Check out the website, Talon Salon, for further details. Flyer by Claire McCracken, show brought to you by Next Wave Festival.
